Great app but I have a problem with the servers always going down!! I will be trying to text family or friend and it will say “we are so sorry the textfree servers are not availiable right now” they either need to fix that problem or get better servers

I really think having ads on the paid version is very sneaky. You can absolutely start putting ads on for new users, but I think it’s unfair that old users have to deal with ads after already having paid $6.

It sounds like you agreed to a phone number when you upgraded to Textfree Unlimited 3.3.
Sorry we upset you. Let me try to explain. We got TONS of people (especially on iPod touch) asking for phone numbers, but phone numbers cost real money. Our solution was to give people the option of phone numbers but in exchange they would have to see ads.
You totally aren’t required to have a phone number for Textfree, and you can go back to your old Textfree with no ads. If you’d like to do this, please send an email to support@pinger.com with your textfree user ID and we’ll take care of it for you.
By the way, there will be a way to buy out ads in a future version so that you can have your phone number and STILL not have ads.

I feel in the past, Pinger has always “snuck” ads into the app. The reason why I migrated over to Textnow was having to see Pinger ads (like Slime Ball, etc.) even before Textfree loaded. In addition at the time, the app loaded much slower than it does now, probably due to those ads.
I saw the update yesterday and re-installed Textfree just for the hell of it. The program loads much faster so great job on that! But then the ads…more ads…This is the reason why you guys have lost me as a customer. I regret not wanting to use the app, because it is really well developed. I hope you guys made good use of my $6!
I understand that a company has to make money, but not by the way you guys have been doing it/are doing it. Just my two cents.

As an existing Textfree Unlimited user, you can go back to your old Textfree Unlimited with no ads, you just wont get the number. We don’t put ads in the loading screen in Textfree Unlimited, and yes, it now loads MUCH MUCH faster.

I think the ads that Duy is talking about are the txt messages you get from Pinger about other products. Doodle buddy, pic messaging, etc. It’s a little annoying and even worse when you get a popup notification outside of the app for them.
I really don’t mind the actual ads, but would pay the $6 to remove ads if it also removed the more annoying self promotions. Also, is the ad removal tied to device or account? I’ve lost two subscriptions because the app got deleted and the program didn’t register the dlc when I reinstalled.

Weird, I cant get a local area code. Every time I try a Miami(305/786)/Ft Lauderdale(954) zip code (33131, 33028, 33180, etc) it gives 203 area code numbers which are Connecticut.

Understand your concerns. We did run out of area codes in some areas, and we’re investigating why you are getting numbers that are so far away from where you live.
We’ll be getting more numbers in a few weeks, but I can’t say with 100% certainty whether yours will be included. (I know it’s a bummer, sorry about that, but while we do request numbers in specific area codes, in some areas they just can’t give us what we ask for, sadly.)
When the next Textfree update comes out, try another zip code that is near your home and see if you get better options, ok? Let me know how it goes.

Ok, well I suggest you include a disclaimer in itunes about this, because most will not figure this out until they pay $ for the app and then downrate it.
There shouldnt be a promised feature unless there are proper resources to support that feature.
Another way to alieviate this would be to finally allow full Google Voice integration like TextNow does where you can use your Google Voice number right in the app and your username is transparent to others

Hi i was wondering if you guys would ever consider combining this app with an app that u could recieve and send calls on for the ipod touch cause i like the phone number thing but $6 is reallyy expensive and plus we have to pay that every year so i would hope we get something more and lastly i would like to know if we can upgrade through the apple store cause if not i dont feel comfortable giving out my credit card number

I’m not sure what you mean by “I would like to know if we can upgrade through the Apple store”? All upgrades, in-app purchases, etc are done through the App Store. We never ask for your credit card number, and you are always billed directly by Apple (we never even know what card you paid with!)

I just downloaded the app. I’m confused about the difference between someone sending me a text via the phone number or the textree.us address.
I testing sending myself texts from the built in messenging on my phone sending to the phone number and also the textfree.us address. Only the textfree address message went through, and I got a push notification ping.
Is this the way it is supposed to work? What is the phone number given to me for?

Yes, I am having the same issue. When I send myself texts from my friend’s phone to my iPod touch via my phone number, my friend recieves a text message that my phone number is invalid.

I’m having problems with the App. It stop receiving text messages sometime after Nov. 14 (last message received). I can get messages sent to the username@textfree.us email account, but messages sent to the phone number are never received.

I have to reboot my iPod touch, which will cause it to erase all my apps, including Textfree. When i download it again, will i be able to have the same account, or will i have to make a new one?

Depending on how you reboot it, it won’t erase your apps. If you hold down the lock button and home button for ten-eleven seconds, it’ll reboot it and keep everything, it just resets the general settings.

I love your new update (unlimited with voice) but I’m slightly confused because I can’t seem to find it on the App store anymore! I just joined. Not sure how to get credits. Can’t find anywhere on the app to get the credits. One time Kayak popped up and offered 38 credits for downloading the app and opening. I clicked on it and went to the iTunes store. When Kayak opened up it crashed iTunes crashed and lost it. I didn’t know how to open it again for credit. Ok, I have not downloaded the Update and I really doubt that matters.. But anyways I downloaded the one that says you get like something ringtones cause I was bored.. And not only did I not recieve the ringtone things but it stopped working completly!
I am able to recieve messages.
I am UNable to txt back.
And whenever I try to txt back the sending bar gets filled as it really sent but like a few secounds will pass and it would just crash??
I deleted this app.
And redownloaded it.
But it’s STILL the same..!?

I was very please with the text free app for iPod touch…until Every time I try to use it it says the server is unavailable and try back in a few minutes. Well when I come back in a few minutes it says the same thing. It also noifies me of a new text but when I go to read it it is not there. Whenever I want to text someone later in the afternoon around 6 o’clock the server won’t go through. It happens about everyday and it’s getting pretty annoying. Why is this happening??

Not sure why but everyday the servers seem to be down from about 7:30am in the morning to about 3:00pm, that’s pacific standard time also.

Textfree is really starting to piss me off. My push notifications will tell me that someone texted me, but when I go to open it; it tells me that the severs are down, & are being fixed ASAP, which is stupid cause it’s actually not being fixed; what do I do to fix this?!

Ok I love textfree because I can have unlimited testing and all but I have an issue and it’s kind of a huge one that annoys me SOOOOOOO much! Whenever I get a text (like I just got one right now) it’ll notify me and have sort of like a preview of it like the first couple of words then when I go to look at the whole message it won’t come up!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I’ve been trying to look at a txt that I got like 20 minutes ago and it still won’t come up!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You guys seriously need to fix this please!!! Ok, so I have had the new textfree with voice ever since it came out. And that was on my 3rd gen. iPod touch. But when I switched to the 4th gen iPod. I have been having problems with the calling feature. I seem to not be able to call when I have about 50 minutes. And when someone calls me and I answer it, I can hear them, but they can’t hear me. But when I make an outgoing call I can’t hear anything and it just takes my minutes
Any help would be very much appreciated. Or perhaps an update is in order?

I’ve been using pinger for maybe about half a year now, and am loving it.. There’s just one thing that came up after I updated it.. Now, after I updated it, it’s going crazy and saying I get lots of messages when I dot really get any.. Then it shows in my inbox I have like 1000 messages because it says I get that many.. Then while I’m really texting somebody, the “message” tone goes off, and it delays my typing majorly..

At about 9:00 every night, everytime i try to send a text or refresh my texts, it gives me the “Were so sorry. The textfree servers are unavailable” message. Most of the time it works in the morning, but it still drives me crazy when it does that.

I’ve been having the same problem as well. It sees everyone is having this problem. I’ll be texting someone and suddenly at 9pm it just stops working. I’ve only been using the app for a few months but this is the first time I’ve had this problem.

IF YOU BUY INTERNET FROM US AND YOU WANT TO USE A SERVICE LIKE MSN MESSENGER OR ANY OTHER THAT USES TEXT MESSAGES ” YOU MUST BUY UNLIMITED TEXT FROM US” EVEN IF THE SERVICE SAYS IS FOR FREE!!!!

IT’S BEEN 2 DAYS NOW 😦 I KEEP GETTING THIS TEXTS WITH A DOUBLE 00 (ZERO) IN THEM, IT ONLY HAPPENS WHEN MY FRIEND FROM PAKISTAN TEXTS ME, SOME TIMES I GET A NICE WHOLE TEXT BUT NOW MOST OF HE TIMES I ONLY GET THIS 00 TEXTS!!!! My iPod was recently stolen. I now can see through textfree some chats, short names and numbers assigned to them. I don’t know if these are cell phone numbers or textree numbers. Is there anyway that pinger textfree can assist me in locating my iPod. I just received it last Christmas from my Mom and we are very upset that someone would steal it from me. It also has all my information on it. I don’t know these names that are showing up and it seems that the “girl” is deleting messages along, however there is a chat in there now from 6/24. What can I do. Please help!
